愛子宿から秋保温泉への主要道路の入り口であるこの場所には鳥居と石碑群があり、「諏訪神社」へ行く参拝道として地域の人々に「塩柄街道」と呼ばれ親しまれました。昭和３０年代初期までは、お祭りの時は塩柄街道沿いにたくさんの露店が出て賑わっていました。また、月山池南の「愛子岩石切場」から石材を切り出し、トロッコでここまで搬送していました。この石材は奈良の法隆寺の石畳にも使用されています。

"Suwa Shrine" is located in Shiokara where the entrance has a lot of Gate Torii and stone monuments. People living in this area call it Shiokara Street. The street was used to deliver stones exploited from "Ayashi Rock Ishikiri" which is located at the south of "Sai Kathinuma Tsukimi Pond". The stones would be sold to the whole country as building materials until the early 1950s. Horyuji Temple in Nara Prefecture is using stones delivered from here for the pathway to the temple.
